Aisha and I kicked off Labor Day weekend with a trip to Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, MA. We visited the park last year on a foggy day, and while it was cool to see the low clouds over the ocean, we were looking forward to a sunnier experience.

Apparently we weren't the only ones who had the park in mind. Due to some lucky timing, we snagged the last spot in the parking lot. Parking is only $5 for MA residents, which is a steal considering how awesome the place is. From the parking lot, wooded trails lead you past an observation tower and a beautiful man-made quarry. The real highlight though is the park's rocky ocean shoreline, which includes a small mountain of granite pieces. On top is an observation point, where, on a clear day like this one, you an see all the way to Maine. 

Aisha and I spent some time walking/climbing along the rocky shoreline, stopping now and then to watch the boats on the water. Beside the granite pile, there's a space for building cairns, so we stopped to stack some rocks there too.
