For Trails and Sails weekend, I went with my family to see the outdoor sculptures at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The sculptures are an annual happening, and this year’s theme was 20/20, in honor of the show’s twentieth year.
There were 50 sculptures (yes 50!) throughout the park, and we saw all of them thanks to a helpful map and guide provided for free at the entrance. Some sculptures interacted with the environment, such as trees and rocks, while others stood on their own.
Some of my favorite 20/20 sculptures at Maudslay included:
Kitchen Egg 20/20 — a collection of mini plastic household items displayed in clear plastic egg cartons
Festina Lente — Latin sundial phrases and their English translations displayed around the park’s Italian garden
no title — a nameless sculpture made of ladders and pieces of past works, including piano parts and golden plaster faces… hard to describe, actually, but awesome
